Vitamin B12

We all have felt a little tired, got a little moody, or forget where we put things from time to time. No big deal right, it doesnt happen everyday or does it? The truth is many people have one or more of these symptoms on a daily basis. Sometimes it is due to medical reasons, often it is the lack or deficiency of B vitamins, specifically Trivita B-12 vitamins.

What is it?

B12 and folate are B complex vitamins that are necessary for normal red blood cell formation, tissue and cellular repair, and DNA synthesis. A B12 and/or folate deficiency reflects a chronic shortage of one or both of these vitamins. Since the body stores 3 to 5 years worth of B12 and several months’ supply of folate in the liver, deficiencies and their associated symptoms can take months to years to manifest in adults. Infants and children will show signs of deficiency more rapidly, however, as they have not yet established extensive reserves.

B12 is properly maintaining your nervous system and helping to keep nerve cells healthy. This in turn keeps your brain functioning the way it should. B vitamins also assists in the production and regulation of DNA, which is present in every cell in your body. And since this nutrient is also a very strong antioxidant, it helps fight off free radicals which can lead to cancer. It is important that your body gets some vitamin B12 every day. It helps metabolize the food you eat so you can utilize it for energy. It does this by helping turn the carbohydrates in your food to glucose. When the glucose is released into your system, it gives you energy. Many people who struggle with fatigue and low energy often have a vitamin B12 deficiency.

A simple fact still remains, your body requires Trivita B-12 vitamins to function properly, along with many other nutrients. As we grow older our bodies are less able to pull Trivita B-12, a precious resource from some of the foods most rich in it. This becomes a real problem for many people, even those that do in fact eat a well balanced diet, including foods rich in Trivita B-12. Therefore, it has long been stated that in order to reach your daily requirement of Trivita B-12 it should be taken in a quality supplement.

Over time, a deficiency in either B12 or folate can lead to macrocytic anemia, a condition characterized by the production of fewer, but larger red blood cells and a decreased ability to carry oxygen. Due to the anemia, patients may be weak, light-headed, and short of breath. A deficiency in B12 can also result in varying degrees of neuropathy, nerve damage that can cause tingling and numbness in the patient’s hands and feet and mental changes that range from confusion and irritability to severe dementia.

Our bodies along with our cells eventually die, thus when a cell dies, the stem cells made in your bone marrow and other parts of our bodies are released back through a chemical trail to the dead cell, basically transforming to the type of cell it is to replace. For me it explains a lot about the aging process because it is defined as cell death and cell replacement. Further demonstrating why some people age prematurely, because stem cells cannot keep up daily with the demand of dead cells. Too many dead cells, not enough stem cells to keep up. On the flip side, if stem cells are not under such extreme demands on a daily basis, and an adequate amount can be produced daily you age slower. A healthy human being is less likely to experience chronic diseases associated with premature aging. Obviously, having a whole lot of stem cells is a very good thing indeed!

Pregnant women need increased amounts of folate for proper fetal development. If a woman has a folate deficiency prior to pregnancy, it will be intensified during gestation and may lead to premature birth and neural tube birth defects, such as spina bifida, in the child.

We all have felt a little tired, got a little moody, or forget where we put things from time to time. No big deal right, it doesn't happen everyday or does it? The truth is many people have one or more of these symptoms on a daily basis. Sometimes it is due to medical reasons, often it is the lack or deficiency of B vitamins, specifically B-12 vitamins.

Although there are studies circulating that suggest B-12 vitamins do not help with fatigue, due to inconclusive evidence. Some important facts still remain, B-12 vitamins has a long history and a solid reputation as an energy booster, along with being the most important of the eight complex B vitamins.

A simple fact still remains, your body requires B-12 vitamins to function properly, along with many other nutrients. As we grow older our bodies are less able to pull B-12, a precious resource from some of the foods most rich in it. This becomes a real problem for many people, even those that do in fact eat a well balanced diet, including foods rich in B-12. Therefore, it has long been stated that in order to reach your daily requirement of B-12 it should be taken in a quality supplement.

B12 benefits your body in many ways. One of its key functions is to help your body in the creation of red blood cells. These cells help carry oxygen to your vital organs, including your heart and brain. This oxygen is crucial in providing you the necessary energy to get through each day. B12 also helps with white cell production, which is important to keeping your immune system strong, which in turn keeps you healthy.

So there you go, just some of the many great reasons to take in B-12 daily. Some foods rich in B-12 are: liver, sardines, eggs, some breakfast cereals if it is fortified with B-12. Remember that eating these foods rich in B-12 doesn't always mean you are getting the recommended daily dose, so taking a good quality B-12 supplement can't hurt. B-12 is a water soluble vitamin and has no real side effects if you take too much.

Some Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Symptoms Can Be Managed with B Vitamins

Some Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Symptoms Can Be Managed with B Vitamins

Patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome share many similarities in symptoms associated with both these very painful disorders. Along with sharing many of the same symptoms, both have no known cause, nor is there a cure for either one.

It can be very hard to distinguish one from the other, because it is estimated that up to seventy percent of those diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome can also fall under the guidelines of fibromyalgia and vice versa. Even doctors can become confused, because people with chronic fatigue syndrome have pain associated, which is one of the main symptoms of fibromyalgia. On the reverse those with fibromyalgia have symptoms of fatigue which is a big factor for those afflicted with chronic fatigue syndrome. You can easily see why it might leave some wondering, which is which?

So what are some of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia? This disorder can affect anyone, but most commonly found in middle aged folks, and those with rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases can be especially at risk. Fibromyalgia makes you feel tired, we all can feel tired at some time or another, the difference comes in the fact, that even though rested, someone with fibromyalgia still feels tired, causing muscle pain and tenderness to the touch for some places such as the neck, shoulders, back, hips, arms and legs. These life changing symptoms can bring on trouble sleeping, morning stiffness, headaches, along with problems thinking and memory.

Those diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome have had a minimum of six months of fatigue, other symptoms include muscle pain, memory problems, headaches, pain in multiple joints, sleep issues, sore throat and tender lymph nodes. This disorder commonly affects women in their 40's and 50's, but again anyone can get it and can last for years.

There is one thing that both doctors and their patients affected by either one of these disorders agree, and that is that B-12 vitamins and folic acid can help them manage some of their symptoms. Since both disorders can affect mental function, memory and thinking problems in particular. B vitamins and brain function are strong and well documented. It is no wonder many healthcare professionals, both traditional and alternative medicine, along with experts in both fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome support the use of B vitamins and folic acid to help in managing their patients symptoms.

If you think you or a loved one has any or all of these symptoms, please see your health care provider to know for sure. If you have been diagnosed with either one of these disorders. Take plenty of high quality B vitamins to help with some of the symptoms.

If you would you like to try a free sample of a high quality B-12 vitamins with folic acid, through our Free Gift of Health, simply fill out the form on the site. Betalins, B-12 & Stem Cells?

I recently read an interesting article by Brazos Minshew, Chief Science Officer for TriVita. In this informative report, Minshew had just returned from an anti-aging conference that focused on natural and pharmaceutical ways to slow the aging process and extend the vitality/longevity of humans. There were 20 speakers from around the world. All 20 of these physicians and professors eventually discussed stem cells as a way to slow aging and speed healing.

Now I don't know about you, but when I think of "stem cells" I immediately think of stem cell research and the highly controversial experimentation being conducted on these tissues. Of course not knowing or understanding the full definition of stem cells, that yes there are "embryonic" stem cells which are cells that differentiate becoming different tissue that become the heart, brain and other organs in a forming human. But did you know that once a human is formed, that the body continues to make stem cells? It's true! In fact, we make stem cells everyday as part of our healing process. The difference between these stem cells and "embryonic stem cells" is stem cells the body makes afterwards replace other cells.

Stem cells as part of the body also requires proper nutrition to function adequately on a daily basis. If the body does not receive the required nutrients for making cells and those stem cells you can become deficient. So when the call comes for cell replacement from dying cells your bone marrow will not fill the order to meet the demand, and we all know what happens then...premature aging. Or cells will be made, but lack the critical nutrients that make it a healthy cell, leaving it wide open for inflammation and disease.

To keep our body making all those much needed stem cells, first and foremost you need a good foundation of proper nutrition, but you can take it one step further with specific nutrients that really stimulate the production line of stem cells. But what kind of special nutrients? Well, back to the article, and the anti-aging conference Brazos Menshew spoke of where six stem cells powerhouse nutrients were mentioned. Of the those duly noted, two stood out, one of which has an unusually large amount of the much needed stem cell nutrient, and believe it or not, it's found in the prickly pear cactus! It's Betalains! Betalins taken with B-12 vitamins may help the production.

So keep the hands of time at a slower speed, help your body burn the midnight oil on the stem cell production line by feeding it just what it needs, Betalins and B-12 vitamins. The best way to get these two super nutrients is by taking superior products! So grab a bottle of Sonoran Bloom Nopalea and drink in a wealth of Betalins, then place sublingual B-12's tasty pink pill under your tongue! Now your cooking!

Is Your Skin Telling You Something?

As a society we are very much dependant on our outward appearance. Why we spend billions, maybe even trillions on everything from the clothes we wear, to way we smell, and everything in between. But let me ask you a question, have you REALLY looked at the skin you're in? It may in fact be telling you something.

Every morning we wake up and look in the mirror, often because we see ourselves 24/7, we may not really be paying close enough attention to the details. It's these details that can shed light to possible health issues lurking inside. For example:

Let's start with dry skin, perhaps it's the obvious, and you just need more fluids, especially water. In the winter months especially, when so many of us are indoors for the majority of the time, often our skin is dry and irritated. Perhpas it may be that you need more essential fatty acids in order to relieve your dry skin.

How about liver spots. It isn't unusual to see older folks with brown spots on their hands. Typically these spots are a direct result of sun damage, but sometimes it could be far worse. Liver spots are from a chemical pigment called lipofuscin. When this pigment builds up in your muscles, nerves, skin and brain, it isn't good. In some cases causing loss of fine motor skills in the hands and body. Extreme overload of lipofuscin in the brain could result in nervous system oxidation and possibly Parkinson Disease. If you have liver spots, keep a watchful eye on them, reporting any major changes to your doctor. and again you may find some relief by taking essential fatty acids, along with antioxidants, together nourishing and protecting your precious brain tissues.

Vitiligo is a skin disorder that causes a loss of pigment in areas of the skin. The pigment loss may result in white blotches on the hands and face. Sometimes vitiligo can be a side effect of too much antibiotic use, chemotherapy or steroids. Sadly, it can just happen with no reason at all. One way you can fight back against vitiligo is with UV light therapy. B-12 vitamins are also quite helpful if you take it correctly for maximum benefits such as sublingually, under the tongue. B-12 vitamins can actually help starve the fungus that may trigger vitiligo. You can also implement the amino acid L-Phenylalanine as it holds much promise in the fight.

So take heed to your body, watch for the signs that your skin maybe telling you! Nourish your skin in a bath of essential fatty acids, and reduce inflammation, by taking TriVita's OmegaPrime.

Resource; VitaJournal Got B's?

Got B's what are you talking about? Well, I am referring to a prestigious group of hard working nutrients that are essential to your bod, the "B" vitamin family and their star B-12. Which by the way is responsible for increased, sustainable energy, a fantastic disease fighter and so much more, all by itself!

B vitamins as I mentioned above are a powerful alliance when enough of these little guys are absorbed into our body. Unfortunately, we don't always get the recommended amounts according to the Food and Drug Administration in our daily diet. There are many factors that contribute to a lack of these key nutrients. It isn't always due to a bad diet, even if we do eat right, such things as toxins in our soil, toxins in our air, are solid road blocks in delivering just what we need.

So who are these B's anyway?

* Vitamin B1 (thiamine)
* Vitamin B2 (riboflavin)
* Vitamin B3 (niacin or niacinamide)
* Vitamin B4 (adenine)
* Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid)
* Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine, pyridoxal, or pyridoxamine, or pyridoxine hydrochloride)
* Vitamin B7 (biotin)
* Vitamin B9 (folic acid)
* Vitamin B12 (various cobalamins; commonly cyanocobalamin in vitamin supplements)

These water soluble vitamins are essential to cell metabolism. When you get the whole gang together you have a B Complex ready to rival the likes of irregular heartbeat, heart failure, memory loss and other cognitive deficits to name a few.

So, just how can you be sure you are getting the recommended dosage in order to keep the B's buzzing for optimal health? Since we already know that many of the healthy foods we eat, some containing a rich source of a specific B vitamin doesn't always deliver, taking supplements can help assure you are doing all you can. However, there is one particular vitamin I mentioned earlier, the star of show, remember, B-12 vitamins? Well B-12 even if conditions are right and you received a proper dose of it either through foods or supplements, doesn't always get absorbed. You see the older we get, the less B-12 vitamins is absorbed into our bodies. This star B-12 for maximum delivery, maximum results, must be taken sublingually or better known as under the tongue. Taking it like many other supplements by swallowing B-12 vitamins isn't the way this super "B" works!

Since Mother Nature can't always provide us with the most nutritious foods these days, sometimes we need a extra helping hand to reach our goals of optimal health. So remember to get your daily "B's" and don't forget good old B-12 vitamins taken sublingually! Your body will thank you!

How about a FREE sublingual B-12 Gift of Health, kind of like a FREE test drive to this amazing supplement, sublingual B-12. Simply go to the TriVita Products site and fill out the form for Your Free B-12 Gift of Health!

Ever grabbed your coat, jumped in the car and totally forgot where you were going? Or how about laughing and joking around with your very best friend in all the world, when suddenly you can't think of their name. You sluff it off, telling yourself, it's just a little brain slip, no big deal, I am young! Only old people are forgetful.

For the most part that is true. If you are over 40 years of age and you experience memory slippage, lack of coordination or balance, your attention span is shorter, can't concentrate for long periods of time, or your concentration is scattered you have something to be worried about. As we grow older these things can and do happen to many of us.

The astonishing truth is that if one or more of these things is happening to you, it could be the result of brain erosion. Brain erosion simply put means the brain actually erodes or shrinks. It is a scary fact YOUR brain can really shrink! In fact your brain can shrink 10 to 25 percent of total total volume due to the effects of stress alone.

Now the shocking part is this is happening to people as young as thirty years of age. According to 1970's, 1980's statistics brain erosion was only found in people over the age of 50. However, a major study conducted by Washington University (St. Louis, Missouri) detected brain volume loss as early as age 30. Researchers also discovered that this brain volume loss often leads to dementia.

In addition people under 30 years of age may also lose cognitive function as a result of asthma, ADHD, allergies, digestive issues or diabetes. These medical issues result in a much lower B vitamins absorption rate, this literally is starving the brain for the right kind of nutrition, B vitamins. specifically B-12, vital to the absorption of so many other key nutrients.

Which begs the question, what is different now, what is causing brain erosion in much younger people than ever before? Stress, and it's damaging effects on our bodies is the biggest reason. Pollutants, lack of nutrition in our food, the relentless expectations we have for ourselves, mixed with other people's expectations of us all add up to stress personified! This nasty cocktail often times overload our bodies with ill effects such as brain erosion.

Young or old; if you feel you have experienced any of the above symptoms brain erosion might be taking place. Don't stress there is a solution to decreasing and even repairing the damage.

Your brain may be lacking essential building blocks such as B-12 and Omega 3 fatty acids, without them your brain may be shrinking. This was confirmed by a study conducted at the University of Illinois. The study showed those with adequate amounts of B-12 had less brain volume loss, along with the ability to keep it, than those with inadequate amounts of B-12.

So there you go, youth doesn't always keep mental clarity on your side! No matter how old you are fight back! Take your B-12 vitamins - the best source come from TriVita's sublingual B-12 vitamins.

Resources: TriVita's Vita Journal Dr. Scott Conrad, Tiena Health The Inside Scoop on B-12 Vitamins

What the heck are B-12 vitamins anyway? Well, let's start with the basics, vitamin B-12 is a water-soluble B vitamin that helps transform fats and proteins from foods into energy and works with folic acid to produce normal red blood cells. An adequate supply of vitamin B-12 vitamins is also necessary for normal neurological function.

Vitamin B-12 cannot be produced inside your body; it must come from your diet. Once you eat foods containing B-12, it is not easily absorbed and broken down for use within your body. This is because B-12 is very large and complex. Only about 1% of the B-12 in the food you eat is absorbed.

Certain bacteria and sea microbes are able to dissolve and digest the metal cobalt and convert it to Vitamin B-12. We cannot digest metal. When we are young, bacteria in our intestines "ferment" the B-12 from our diet. Fermentation is a long process that may take as long as three weeks to get the meager 1% of the vitamin into our system.

Do I need to take B-12 in my diet?

B12 vitamins are needed for normal nerve cell activity, DNA replication, and production of the mood-affecting substance SAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine). Vitamin B12 acts with folic acid and vitamin B6 to control homocysteine levels.

Different types of B-12

B-12 is stored in various organs and tissues. Some go to your liver, kidneys and muscles, while other B-12's circulate in your body fluids, primarily your blood and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF). This is where the story of Vitamin B-12 gets interesting because each type of B-12 has a different function.

Methylcobalamin is a co-enzyme form of Vitamin B-12 that resides in your liver and kidneys. Methylcobalamin is not a complete form of B-12. Rather, it is a B-12 "co-enzyme" that is activated for specific uses. It is primarily for detoxification. For instance, methylcobalamin participates in getting rid of toxic metals, such as lead and mercury. Methylcobalamin is very effective at removing dangerous levels of homocysteine. That's why we formulated HCY Guard with methylcobalamin.

Adenosylcobalamin is another form of B-12 co-enzyme; it lives in your muscles. It allows your muscles to stretch without tearing. Cyanocobalamin is the main form of Vitamin B-12 and it's the type we use in our Sublingual B-12. It is a "whole" B-12, just like hydroxycobalamin. The other B-12s are made from these two sources. Cyanocobalamin resides in your nerves where it heals the scars created by stress, trauma, vitamin deficiency, toxins and just plain time. This has the effect of making you feel lighter. It gives you energy and stamina. Cyanocobalamin also creates a mild euphoria that many people say "just makes me feel better."

Hydroxycobalamin is a whole form of B-12 often administered to children. It also lives in the nervous system and blood. It is found in cerebral spinal fluid. It metabolizes very slowly, so most people don't report much of an energy boost with hydroxycobalamin.

No matter how old or young you are, we all could use more energy, vitality, and above all else...Good health! Get some B-12 today! B-12 Vitamins Absorption is Key

The dietary absorption of vitamin B-12 is complex. It's not just a matter of swallowing a bunch of it (dietary or supplemental) and letting the guts do the work. There is something called "intrinsic factor" which is made in certain cells in the stomach that must be present in order for B-12 vitamins to be absorbed at a point in the very end of the small intestine (the ileum).

The main sources of B-12 include meat, eggs, and dairy products. Food-bound vitamin B12 malabsorption is defined as an impaired ability to absorb food or protein-bound B-12 vitamins, although the free form is fully absorbable. In the elderly, food-bound vitamin B12 malabsorption is thought to result mainly from atrophic gastritis, a chronic inflammation of the lining of the stomach that ultimately results in the loss of glands in the stomach (atrophy) and decreased stomach acid production. Because stomach acid is required for the release of vitamin B12 vitamins from the proteins in food, vitamin B12 absorption is diminished. Decreased stomach acid production also provides an environment conducive to the overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria in the stomach, which further interferes with vitamin B12 absorption. Because vitamin B12 in supplements is not bound to protein, and because intrinsic factor (IF) is still available, the absorption of supplemental vitamin B12 is not reduced as it is in pernicious anemia.

So how can you know you received enough B-12 vitamins?

Take the guesswork out of B-12 vitamins absorption with Super Sublingual B-12 – formulated for maximum absorption with its original, patented sublingual delivery system. Plus, it’s the first and only B-12 vitamins product to combine both major forms of B-12 with B-6, folic acid and ginseng.

Now, you don’t have to worry about the pain and expense of B-12 injections. You simply put a great-tasting, quick-dissolving tablet under your tongue; the B-12 is detectable in the bloodstream in as little as 30 minutes!

An Important Link Between Brain Health and B-12 Vitamins

I recently read an article in TriVita's Vita Journal titled" Can a Supplement ease Alzheimer's?" written by Dr. Scott Conrad Founder of Tiena Health. This article was of great importance to me as my mother was recently afflicted with this horrible disease as a result of a stroke. In Dr. Conrad's article he wrote about the millions that have been affected in some way shape or form by this disease called Alzheimer. Caregivers, friends and family know how atrocious it is to watch someone with Alzheimer slowly lose their memory, increased confusion, along with the wearing down of the mind and body. It is the most heartbreaking pill in life to swallow. To be honest, I do not know if I will ever learn to accept what has happened to my mother.

Yet, in all this sadness, there is a twinkling of light at the end of the tunnel. Brain health and B-12 vitamins according to a recent 2008 study from the University of Oxford, England suggests a possible link between low levels of B-12 and the higher probability of increased brain volume or better known as "brain erosion". The same study also suggested that those with a higher level of B-12 had a decreased probability in brain erosion. Since one of the results of Alzheimer is brain erosion this study has promising importance.

It is these very findings that spurred further research into the great benefits of B-12 vitamins, that in fact B-12 may protect against the devastating disease Alzheimer. Researchers found that the erosion is linked directly to reduced mental function, which is obvious in Alzheimer patients.

This particular study in England took place over five years with 107 adults ages 61 to 87. The question posed "What is the link between vitamin B-12 and brain erosion?"

In order to answer this question, the researchers had the participants in the study following guidelines according to results published by the medical journal Neurology. The participants underwent annual blood tests, MRI's, physical exams and memory tests. None of the subjects had any mental impairments when they began the study.

When the study ended all of the participants had B-12 levels in the normal range, on the other hand, the differences in brain volume between the normal low range and normal high range were quite noteworthy. Therefore the conclusion "People with lower levels of B-12 were six times more likely to have brain volume loss "brain erosion" than those with higher levels of B-12."

This article also pointed out the continual important as a society to take enough vitamin B-12 daily as deficiencies result in such symptoms as decreased mental and nerve functions and of course many more, too many to list. But I believe you get the jest.

Many health conscious people are already aware of the importance of certain key vitamins, yet for me personally, after reading this article what I found most beneficial was the new research brought forth that brain erosion can also be a direct result of lack of B-12. So take your B-12! I know I will...but be sure you get the right kind of B-12 vitamin, and that is taken sublingual under the tongue for maximum benefits. Learn more by visiting Vitamin B12 Benefits

Research TriVita Vita Journal Dr.Scott Conrad Founder of Tiena Health Vitamin B-12 Benefits 122

"Dr. Alfred Libby was a medical doctor and substance abuse therapy specialist who worked primarily with heroin addicts – searching for new therapies to improve the detoxification process. He was aware that most addicts were not getting the B-12 they needed through food, but he was extremely reluctant to give them any kind of injection. In the late 1970s, Dr. Libby began to explore an alternative delivery system for vitamin B-12. The goal was to bypass the stomach where this essential nutrient is not easily absorbed."

"In early spring of 1980, Dr. Libby approached his colleagues with his theory that B-12 could be delivered to the bloodstream sublingually (under the tongue). Biochemists and his medical colleagues were quick to dismiss the idea. However, he was persistent and they eventually decided to give his theory a try, although they were convinced it would fail."

"Six weeks later the first study was underway. Shortly after, Dr. Libby's sublingual delivery method was deemed a complete success – blood levels of B-12 increased dramatically. Dr. Libby significantly improved his formula with the addition of B-6 & Folic Acid and was issued a patent in 1984 for his sublingual process."

"And now, from the experts that brought you the original Sublingual B-12 comes TriVita Super Sublingual B-12. With the original, patented delivery system, TriVita Super B provides more B-12 than the average B-12 shot. Studies show that these important nutrients can be measured in the bloodstream in as little as 30 minutes! Plus, it's the first and only B-12 product to combine both major forms of B-12 with B-6, folic acid and ginseng."

"Thanks to Dr. Libby's original, patented delivery system, thousands of people have experienced increased stamina, mental clarity, improved memory and much more"!

The information listed above is from the TriVita web site (www.trivita.com/superb/getsuperb.com/dr_libby.aspx), and the reason I bring this up is because of my wife's son, who has been told that he may have to continue receiving Vitamin B-12 shots the rest of his life. He's only 25! YIKES!

Here's his short story. Eighteen months ago he was in the hospital with what was diagnosed as a bleeding ulcer. The doctors found and repaired the problem, no worries. Fast forward to the present (one month ago) - seventeen months later - his condition returned. This time it was much worse, as he was hospitalized for five days, and was given six units of blood. As the doctors continued to monitor his one month progress, they find out that his blood levels are too low (whatever that means).

That leads us to where I started his story. The doctors feel that he "may need vitamin b12 shot the rest of his life." So with that said, I suggested TriVita's patented Sublingual B12. Is it recommended by the doctors? Will it be as effective as a true vitamin b12 shot? I guess only time will tell. If "TriVita Super B provides more B-12 than the average B-12 shot" he should be fine, and should be getting enough b12 into his system to discontinue the painful shots.

Vitamin B12 Benefits - 1014

According to many sources, doctor prescribed medications cause adverse affects to the human body. Some of the medications that deplete vitamin b-12 over time include, "Anti-inflammatory medications - inhalant, systemic, and topical corticosteroids; Antibiotic medications - aminoglycosides; Antibiotic medications - sulfa drugs; Antibiotic medications - macrolides; Antibiotic medications - penicillin derivatives," [1] and a whole host of others, too large to mention in this article.

The medications listed above are not only depleting the all important vitamin b-12, but other vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamins B9 and B6, and important minerals such as calcium, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), magnesium, melatonin, potassium, protein and amino acid, selenium, and zinc, to mention a few. Additional information is available on the University of Maryland Medical Center web site (www.umm.edu).

From the UMM web site, here's a quote about vitamin B12 deficiency:

"Obvious symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency are rare because it takes years to develop complications associated with long-term depletion of this nutrient. Irritability, weakness, numbness, anemia, loss of appetite, headache, personality changes, and confusion are some of the signs and symptoms associated with vitamin B12 depletion. Low levels of this vitamin may also be associated with an increased risk of colon cancer, heart disease, brain disorders, and birth defects." [1]

I know it says that obvious symptoms of vitamin B12 are rare, however, if you're taking a combination of the doctor prescribed medications listed above, there's a chance that the depletion process could become more aggressive over time. Since many adults are taking, or will be in the future, multiple medications, understanding the side effects should become more of a priority.

"The average person in North America is on about six different prescription medications by age 65. Each of these medications is designed to complete a specific body function that does not work or that no longer works as well as it needs to for health. These body functions require specific nutrients as fuel." - Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer

You're not alone when it comes to taking multiple, as stated by Mr. Minshew. That's the reason so many health conscious individuals suggest taking precautionary measures like taking daily supplements, like TriVita's Sublingual B-12. Taking a vitamin B12 supplement is one of the easiest ways to get your recommended daily dose.

Let me make it perfectly clear, I'm not a doctor or healthcare professional. So before taking any dietary supplement, you should talk to a health care professional or doctor. The information in this article is just to inform people of the health risks related to doctor prescribed medications, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Although my information comes from reliable sources, it's up to the you to verify it.

If you taking multiple medications, find out what effect these man-made drugs are having on your body. There may be alternatives to these drugs. Doctors may be treating your symptoms, but do they really care about the long term side effects?

In my opinion, taking a b12 supplement on a daily basis is a must. To learn more about the sublingual vitamin b12, its patented delivery system, Dr. Libby, and/or TriVita, visit the vitamin b12 web site.

Vitamin B12 Benefits -102

A web site (LabTestOnline.com) has been designed to help you, as a patient or family caregiver, better understand the many clinical lab tests that are part of routine care, as well as diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of conditions and diseases. They posted an article on vitamin B-12 and the importance of this vitamin. You can read the article below.

"B12 and folate are B complex vitamins that are necessary for normal red blood cell formation, tissue and cellular repair, and DNA synthesis. A B12 and/or folate deficiency reflects a chronic shortage of one or both of these vitamins. Since the body stores 3 to 5 years worth of B12 and several months' supply of folate in the liver, deficiencies and their associated symptoms can take months to years to manifest in adults. Infants and children will show signs of deficiency more rapidly, however, as they have not yet established extensive reserves."

"Over time, a deficiency in either B12 or folate can lead to macrocytic anemia, a condition characterized by the production of fewer, but larger red blood cells and a decreased ability to carry oxygen. Due to the anemia, patients may be weak, light-headed, and short of breath. A deficiency in B12 can also result in varying degrees of neuropathy, nerve damage that can cause tingling and numbness in the patient's hands and feet and mental changes that range from confusion and irritability to severe dementia."

"Pregnant women need increased amounts of folate for proper fetal development. If a woman has a folate deficiency prior to pregnancy, it will be intensified during gestation and may lead to premature birth and neural tube birth defects, such as spina bifida, in the child."

The aging process slows down the delivery of vitamin b12 to the blood stream. Because of the slow delivery process, and the importance of the b12 vitamin, Dr. Libby came up with a patented sublingual delivery method that can deliver almost all of the vitamin's power directly into the bloodstream.

In the late 1970s, Dr. Alfred Libby, renowned authority on therapeutic nutrition and longtime associate of Nobel Prize Laureate, Dr. Linus Pauling, began to explore an alternative delivery system for Vitamin B-12. The goal was to bypass the stomach where this essential nutrient is delivered into the bloodstream, but not easily absorbed.

In early spring of 1980, Dr. Libby approached his colleagues with his new theory that B-12 could be delivered to the bloodstream sublingually (under the tongue). Biochemists and his medical colleagues were quick to dismiss the idea. However, he was persistent and they eventually decided to give his theory a try, although they were convinced it would fail.

Six weeks later the first study was underway. Shortly after, Dr. Libby's Sublingual B-12 invention was deemed a complete success-blood levels of B-12 increased dramatically.

Many people have found success with Dr. Libby's patented sublingual vitamin b12. It is the number one selling product which is sold and distributed by TriVita. We cannot get enough of this vitamin through a proper diet, especially if you're starting to get up there in age.

The benefits of taking a b12 supplement on a daily basis is incredible. I think we all, no matter what age we are, need to look into the benefits and decide if a b12 supplement is right for us. Vitamin B12 Benefits

TriVita has several vitamin b-12 supplements, and people always wonder which supplement is right for them. In TriVita's latest Weekly Wellness Report, Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer, answers the all important question, "Which B-12 supplement is right for you?"

In order to keep the integrity of his answer, I've decided to post the answer in its entirety.

Question: TriVita has several Sublingual B-12 supplements. Which one should I take?

Answer: It depends on your needs.

Need for Vitamin B-12
Vitamin B-12 is an essential nutrient: You cannot thrive without it. You need Vitamin B-12 to make healthy blood, healthy nerves and a healthy brain. Vitamin B-12 insufficiency is implicated in a number of common conditions: from allergies and ADHD to bipolar disorder and Alzheimer's disease. Along with iron and Vitamin C, Vitamin B-12 is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies among seniors. You may actually be protected from a shrinking brain with healthy levels of Vitamin B-12.

There are three ways of looking at "need" in Vitamin B-12:

  1. Disease. If your blood levels are low in B-12 you may be diagnosed with a medical condition called pernicious anemia. This is a serious health condition that is often caused by the inability to properly absorb B-12.
  2. Complete B-12 metabolism. Is the B-12 you are taking doing what it is supposed to do? If so, your homocysteine levels will be low. If not, your homocysteine levels will be high – even though your blood levels of B-12 are also high. B-12 along with folate, Vitamin B-6 and biotin are still needed as long as homocysteine levels are too high.
  3. How you feel. Are you mentally sluggish? Do you feel better when you take B-12? If so, you can continue to take B-12 simply to feel better because there is no toxicity associated with taking B-12.

Types of B-12
Vitamin B-12 is made from the mineral cobalt by beneficial bacterial in the soil and inside living organisms. When scientists make Vitamin B-12 for use in supplements, it is done in the same way. The "parent" form of B-12 is cyanocobalamine (cyan- means blue: the color of cobalt). Cyanocobalamine nourishes your entire body, and your liver uses cyanocobalamine to make other forms of Vitamin B-12. One of the major "children" of cyanocobalamine is methylcobalamine. Methyl-B12 is used in detoxification, especially homocysteine detoxification.

There are many other types of B-12. However, as long as you have cyanocobalamine, your body will make the other types as it needs them. The exception to this rule occurs when a person has been poisoned with toxins such as mercury and lead or when a genetic imbalance prevents them from completely converting B-12.

The type of B-12 for you
Most people over 30 need to take a B-12 supplement. The only certain way to get B-12 into your system quickly (besides injecting it) is to absorb it sublingually, under your tongue. Even people under 30 may take B-12 if they feel stressed, suffer from allergies or asthma, are sad, blue or tired. Vitamin B-12 is also helpful in people with ADHD and other nervous disorders – not as a medical treatment, but as a support for healthy blood, nerves and brain.

TriVita's Sublingual B-12 is awesome in these circumstances. Or you may want to step up to TriVita's Super Sublingual B-12 which is faster-acting and longer-lasting – with three times the Vitamin B-12. If your homocysteine levels are high, or if you have a family history of heart attack, stroke, osteoporosis, or Alzheimer's disease, HCY Guard may be best for you.

This should help you see the need for Vitamin B-12 as well as give you the tools you need to decide which one(s) you need!

One thing you can do, is take control of your health. It's something you can decide to do. It's your decision!

According to Brazos Minchew's report, you should use Sublingual B-12 or Super Sublingual B-12 if:

  • You are over 30
  • You have any type of digestion issue
  • You have low energy
  • You have poor moods
  • You need to improve your memory

And he suggests that you should use HCY Guard if:

  • You have elevated levels of homocysteine
  • You are exposed to environmental toxins
  • You have low kidney function
  • You need detoxification
